Tell us about yourself and your business.

My name is Dennis Chong. I am an attorney at Carr Maloney PC. We are a mid-size business and litigation firm headquartered in Washington, D.C. serving business across the mid-Atlantic. I focus my practice on employment and labor law, civil rights, and appellate matters as a trial litigator. My Firm also has attorneys providing comprehensive legal advice for the most challenging legal issues facing businesses today across multiple industries.

What made you join the chamber?
Not only does the Chamber set up events for businesses to mix and mingle but the group serves as a voice for D.C. LGBTQ+ owned businesses. I enjoy meeting local entrepreneurs and hearing about the issues they may face with respect to new regulations, taxes, costs, or assessments applicable to the businesses they serve and determining whether my Firm can offer guidance. The Chamber serves for both the purpose of networking and as a resource to my firm and businesses alike. I look forward to the Chamber taking an active role in legislative advocacy as well.

What’s the single best thing you’ve experienced as a businessperson in this community because of the efforts of the chamber?

The Chamber has created a great environment for businesses and LGBTQ allies with a common commitment to equality to meet and network. I have met so many wonderful individuals from all different types of industries and backgrounds. Working with the chamber as an ambassador, I’ve found it most fulfilling to introduce new members to other members of the chamber to help all of us support each other in our efforts.

What problem did the Chamber help you solve in your own business?
By engaging with Chamber, I have been able to learn more about the concerns businesses in the community face, both in general and specific to the LGBTQ+ community, and figure out ways that I and my Firm may be able to assist with those concerns. Both my firm and I have been able to obtain additional marketing by exposure through the chamber’s social media, membership directory advertising, and the ECCDC website.

What aspect/part of the community are you most grateful for?

Everyone that is a part of this group and community really are so welcoming and you never are never short of people to talk to at the Chamber events. I’m grateful for a sense of community and the commonality in the practice of equality and inclusion.
